Progress over probe on emblematic cases in Sri Lanka reviewed

The progress into the investigations on a number of emblematic cases in Sri Lanka, including related to the murder of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge, were reviewed at a special meeting at the Police Headquarters.

The?Police Media Division said the meeting was chaired by the new Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Ravi Seneviratne.

The Police said that several high-profile cases related to murders, crimes and fraud were looked into.

Several senior officers, including Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya, and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigators also attended the meeting.

Seneviratne had looked at the steps to be taken to expedite some of the investigations and also reopen investigations that might have been stalled or suspended owing to political influence.

The National People’s Power (NPP) had given an assurance prior to the recent Presidential election that it will ensure justice over several crimes committed in the past, including over the murder of Wickrematunga, rugger player Wasim Thajudeen and the Easter Sunday attacks. (Colombo Gazette)

Rapid antigen tests at exit points during Thai Pongal holidays

New COVID variant enters Sri Lanka
