Dilith Jayaweera presented as presidential candidate of Sarvajana Balaya

Businessman turned politician Dilith Jayaweera has been presented as the presidential candidate of the Sarvajana Balaya alliance.

The announcement was made at an event held at the Sugadathasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday.

MP Wimal Weerawansa presented Jayaweera as the presidential candidate to the public at the event.

Jayaweera, MPs Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gamanpilla and a few other smaller political parties are part of a political alliance.

Weerawansa of the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna, Udaya Gammanpila from the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, Vasudeva Nanayakkara on behalf of the Democratic Left Front, Dr G Weerasinghe from the Communist Party, Gevindu Cumaratunga from the Yuthukama Organisation, Independent MP Channa Jayasumana and Dilith Jayaweera representing the Mawbima Janatha Party (MJP) are part of the alliance. Lanka tells UN to be more objective

School closed for wedding

A school in Galewala was closed this morning for the staff to attend a wedding, reports said. The upper Dikwela School in Galewala closed at around 9.55 this morning and the school principal and teachers had then departed to attend a wedding. Reports said that there are 11 teachers in the school and just 90 students. However the Education Ministry said the school principal had not obtained prior permission to close the school.
