Former Director of Institute of National Security Studies arrested

Former Director of the Institute of National Security Studies Asanga Abeyagoonasekera was arrested at the Katunayake airport.

He was arrested by official at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake based on an open warrant.

According to reports Asanga Abeyagoonasekera was arrested based on an open warrant issued in connection with a case filed by the Department of Inland Revenue.

Asanga is an Author, International Security and Geopolitics Analyst and Strategic Advisor now based overseas.?

He has led two Government think tanks providing strategic advocacy on Foreign Policy and Security in Sri Lanka. He was the Founding Director-General of the National?Security Think Tank under the Ministry of Defence (INSSSL) until January 2020.

Before this, he had served as the Executive Director at the Foreign Policy think tank (Kadirgamar Institute LKIIRSS). (Colombo Gazette)

Special flights to repatriate stranded tourists in Sri Lanka

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has taken measures to repatriate tourists who are stranded in Sri Lanka due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country. Issuing a press release, the SLTDA said the Government will allow charter flights to fly out remaining tourists on holiday or on work in Sri Lanka on request.
