Australia and Sri Lanka discuss ways to strengthen relationship

Australia and Sri Lanka discussed ways to strengthen the longstanding bilateral relationship between both countries.

Australian Foreign Affairs Deputy Secretary Michelle Chan, who is on a visit to Sri Lanka, met Sagala Ratnayaka, the Chief of Staff to President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Paul Stephens, said the discussions focused on ways to strengthen their longstanding bilateral relationship and explored avenues to enhance cooperation between the two nations.

Chan is the Deputy Secretary, South and Southeast Asia Group and Head of the Office of Southeast Asia, in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She is Australia?s ASEAN, East Asia Summit and ASEAN Regional Forum Senior Official. (Colombo Gazette)

Over Rs. 10 million worth of stolen goods found

The Colombo Crimes Division?(CCD) has recovered over Rs. 10 million worth of stolen goods and arrested two persons in this regard. The police said that the goods had been stolen from textile factories in Maharagama, Panipitiya, Nugegoda, Homagama and Battaramulla.

At least 20 people injured in Dambulla accident

At least 20 people were injured following an accident in Dambulla this morning involving a bus and a lorry. The police said that the driver of the bus, which was travelling to Colombo from Vavuniya, had lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a lorry. The accident resulted in at least 13 men and seven women sustaining injuries and being admitted to hospital. Investigations have been launched into the accident. (Colombo Gazette)
