Parliament elections to be held in 2025

The Government announced that Parliament elections will be held in 2025 and the Presidential election within the mandated period.

Issuing a statement, the President’s office said that according to the current timeline, the General Election will be held next year.

Accordingly, financial provisions for the General Election will be provided for in the 2025 Budget, the Presidential Secretariat said.

The Presidential Secretariat said that the responsibility of conducting elections lies with the Election Commission of Sri Lanka and the Government will be communicating with the Commission as and when required.

There have been calls by the opposition to hold snap elections this year.

But the Election Commission had said that it has not been allocated funds to hold Parliament elections this year. (Colombo Gazette)

Meteor believed to have crashed in the southern seas

A large meteor is believed to have crashed in the southern seas last night (Wednesday). Some residents in Colombo had seen a bright light in the sky while those in the South saw an object fall in the sea with a loud bang and bright light. Five arrested over disappearance of girls in Kolonnawa remanded

Five suspects arrested over the disappearance of three girls in Kolonnawa have been remanded till November 1st. A young woman and a girl who were reported missing from Kollonawa, surrendered to the Police yesterday. The 19 year old young woman and 15 year old girl were among three people reported missing. Meanwhile a 14 year old girl, who was still missing, later surrendered to the Gampaha Police with a woman she had stayed with.
