Jeevan off to Geneva to discuss matters related to Up-Country Tamils

General Secretary of the Ceylon Workers Congress, and Minister for Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development, Jeevan Thondaman, is to travel to Geneva to discuss matters related to Up-Country Tamils.

The Minister has been invited to take part in a global labour conference organized by Public Services International Geneva.

He will be accompanied by Barath Arulsamy, Vice President of the Ceylon Workers Congress and Chairman of the Plantation Human Development Trust and Aritha Wickramasinghe Advisor to the Minister.

The Minister is expected to have talks with the Director-General of the International Labour Organisation, and officials of the United Nations Human Rights Council, with a particular focus on matters concerning the Up-Country Tamil community.

These deliberations are aimed at addressing the challenges and opportunities faced by this community.

The Minister will also be meeting with officials from the World Economic Forum, sharing the status of the ongoing reforms being undertaken in Sri Lanka, especially in the water sector, and affirming our commitment to achieving clean drinking water for all.

These events will also highlight the state event ‘Naam-200’ which is dedicated to honoring and appreciating the invaluable contributions of the plantation community for the last 200 years. (Colombo Gazette)

Sirisena believes Easter attacks had a foreign hand
