UK and Sri Lanka discuss reconciliation and economy

The United Kingdom and Sri Lanka had broad discussions which focused on the economy and reconciliation as well as other issues. Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aruni Wijewardane and Permanent Under Secretary of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom Sir Philip Barton held discussions at the Foreign Ministry in Colombo. The constructive bilateral engagement took place in the 75th year of UK-SL diplomatic relations, the Foreign Ministry said.

Wijeyadasa accuses Kiriella of tapping his phone

Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe today accused Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Lakshman Kiriella of tapping his phone. Rajapakshe questioned a statement made by Kiriella that the President and Prime Minister had spoken to the Minister over the telephone and criticised him. “That is a serious issiue. EC tells Supreme Court LG polls will take place

The Election Commission informed the Supreme Court today that the Local Government (LG) elections will take place on schedule. The Supreme Court was informed that the LG polls would be conducted in compliance with the Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) Act. Nominations for the polls are being accepted and the date of the elections will be announced once the nominations process is completed.
