On the Occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Maldives a Flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Embassy of Maldives in Sri Lanka today. The National Day of Maldives is marked to celebrate the victory of Muhammad Thakurufaanu over the Portuguese in the year 1573. The National Day of Maldives falls on the first of Rabee ul-Awwal, of the Islamic calendar. TNA says anyone is free to leave the Tamil alliance

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has said that anyone can leave the Tamil alliance. TNA leaders told Tamil media heads that the door to the TNA remains open for anyone to join them. However the TNA said that, at the same time, anyone is free to leave the alliance. The TNA said this in response to a question raised of the EPRL possibly leaving the TNA. The EPRL has already indicated it will contest the Local Government elections separately and not with the TNA. (Colombo Gazette)

Ranil to visit Indian temple tomorrow to offer prayers

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be visiting Sri Mookambika temple at Kollur in Udupi district in India tomorrow (Tuesday), The Hindu newspaper reported. According to sources in the temple, Wickremesinghe would arrive in a helicopter to the Areshiroor helipad near Kollur at 11.15 a.m. on Tuesday.
