Japan imposes ban on travellers from Sri Lanka

Japan has decided to impose entry ban on travellers who have been in Bangladesh, Maldives and Sri Lanka in the last 14 days before arrival to the East Asian country to prevent the spread of a more contagious coronavirus variant first found in India. The last batch of 103 Sri Lankan migrant workers kept in detention centres in Riyadh and Jeddah returned to Sri Lanka today. All arrivals in Sri Lanka suspended from 21-31 May

All passenger arrivals into Sri Lanka have been suspended from the 21st -31st May. The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) announced that passenger arrivals will be suspended from midnight on 21 May to midnight on 31 May. The CAASL said, however, passengers who wish to leave the country will be permitted to do so during this period. The Authority further said the ban will be enforced due to the current coronavirus situation in the country. (Colombo Gazette)
