Finance Committee told to look into Finance Ministry report

The Finance Committee in Parliament was today told to look into alleged discrepancies in the annual Finance Ministry report. The annual Finance Ministry report had been submitted to Parliament but the opposition said the report cannot be accepted as there are some discrepancies. Poddala appears before CID, says not satisfied with probe

Former media activist Poddala Jayantha appeared before the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today to file a complaint over the ongoing investigations into an assault on him. The former secretary of the Sri Lanka Working Journalists’ Association (SLWJA) told reporters that he was not satisfied with the investigations into the assault in 2009. A 6.28% bus fare hike gets approval from cabinet

A bus fare hike has been given cabinet approval, Transport Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said today. He said the approval for a 6.28% bus fare hike was given when cabinet met today and the fare hike will take effect from July 1 this year. The Minister said that with the bus fare hike the minimum fare of Rs. 9 will be increased by Rs. 1 and the new fares will be applicable to private and Government buses. (Colombo Gazette)
