Trade unions today launched a major strike crippling key operations across the country. Government, private and semi-Government trade unions are supporting the strike. Transport, port, health and banking sectors are among those affected by the one-day token strike. Funeral wreaths and white flags placed outside Temple Trees

Funeral wreaths and white flags were placed outside Temple Trees today to remember the victim of the shooting incident in Rambukkana. Protesters staged a funeral march from Galle Face to Temple Trees and gathered outside the gates of the official residence of the Prime Minister. The protesters placed the wreaths and white flags with red stains on the barricades outside Temple Trees and on a part of the wall. A small Police presence was seen outside the gate and the whole event was peaceful.

Public Security Minister defends Police action

Public Security Minister Prasanna Ranatunga today defended the Police action in Rambukkana where one person was killed and several others sustained injuries. Speaking in Parliament today, Ranatunga said that the Police took action to prevent a serious issue. Ranatunga claimed that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya was involved in some of the protests seen in the country yesterday (Tuesday).
