CC approves nomination of Rajakaruna as Court of Appeal Judge

The Constitutional Council has approved President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s nomination of Senior Deputy Solicitor General R. M. Sobhitha Rajakaruna as a Court of Appeal Judge. The Constitutional Council also approved the nomination of Sanjeeva Jayawardena, PC. as a member of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Amended indictments filed in Avant Garde case rejected

The Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar has rejected the amended indictments filed by?Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera over the Avant Garde arms trafficking case. The indictments consist of 882 charges. The Attorney General had earlier filed 7,573 charges in the case against Avant-Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi and seven others. Gazette to establish Sainthamaruthu Urban Council suspended

An Extraordinary Gazette notice issued last week to establish the Sainthamaruthu Urban Council has been suspended. Cabinet spokesman Dinesh Gunawardena told reporters that the cabinet had decided not to approve the decision to establish the Sainthamaruthu Urban Council. He said that the cabinet was of the opinion that there is a need to establish separate councils in other parts of the country as well.
