HRCSL issues guidelines to Police for Parliamentary polls

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has issued Guidelines to Police Officers on Parliamentary General Election 2020, which have been sent to the Acting Inspector General of Police.

The main objective of these guidelines is to make police officers aware of action that has to be taken to protect fundamental rights during elections.

In addition to the Inspector General of Police, the guidelines were sent to the Election Commission and the National Police Commission.

Navy arrests 49 Indian fishermen, 12 fishing trawlers detained

Fast Attack Craft attached to the?Northern Naval Command and Sir Lanka Coast Guard, whilst on routine patrol, arrested 49 Indian fishermen and impounded 12 fishing trawlers for trespassing into Sri Lankan territorial waters and engaging in illegal fishing last night (07, August) and this morning.
