Special operation to nab curfew violators

A special Police operation is to be launched to nab curfew violators around the country.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that the Police operation will be conducted from 6PM this evening (Monday) to 6PM tomorrow (Tuesday).

Earlier, the Police warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals who misuse the curfew permits issued to them for essential purposes.

Several incidents of using the curfew permits for purposes other than the intended service had been reported to the Police.

The Police said that using the curfew permits issued for facilitating essential services for any other purpose is illegal and since a tendency has been seen for people to use curfew permits to visit homes on the occasion of the traditional New Year, the law will be strictly enforced.

All police stations have been instructed to comply with the quarantine law against people who violate the applicable laws. (Colombo Gazette)
