SLPP PS member suspended for molesting teen

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Thanamalwila Pradeshiya Sabha member R.A. Ranaweera, who was arrested and remanded for molesting a 13-year-old girl, has been suspended by the party.

Ranaweera?and four others were arrested for molesting the 13-year-old girl and were later remanded.

The girl had reportedly been molested on several occasions.

Issuing a statement General Secretary of the SLPP Attorney-at- Law Sagara Kariyawasam said that the party will carry out a disciplinary inquiry into the incident and if found guilty, will evict Ranaweera from the party.

Kariyawasam said that the SLPP places high value for discipline and ethics, and expects similar commitment from its party members.

The party on previous occasions has taken severe disciplinary action against members found to have violated party ethics and been involved in criminal activities, he pointed out.?(Colombo Gazette)
