More coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka

The number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka rose to 185 late this evening.

In all, seven new cases had been detected today, the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry said.

The Ministry of Health said 135 patients among the infected persons have been reported as active cases.

Meanwhile, 255 persons are under observation at various hospitals on suspicion of having contracted the virus.

The Ministry further said 42 patients, including 41 Sri Lankans and one Chinese woman, have recovered so far and have been discharged from hospital.

Six deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported in Sri Lanka as of today, it added. (Colombo Gazette)

Five policemen arrested over death of suspect in custody

Five policemen were arrested today over the death of a suspect in the custody of the Peliyagoda police. Among those arrested was a Sub Inspector (SI), the police media unit said.
