Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe today accused Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Lakshman Kiriella of tapping his phone. EC tells Supreme Court LG polls will take place

The Election Commission informed the Supreme Court today that the Local Government (LG) elections will take place on schedule. The Supreme Court was informed that the LG polls would be conducted in compliance with the Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) Act. Nominations for the polls are being accepted and the date of the elections will be announced once the nominations process is completed. University student arrested over Race Course murder

A Colombo University student has been arrested over the murder of a young woman at the Race Course Ground in Colombo 07. The Police said the 24-year-old male student was arrested in Wellampitiya this evening. A knife believed to have been used in the murder and a bag were also found in his possession.
