Health workers dealing with coronavirus patients face social stigma

Local health workers are facing social stigma as a result of the work they do to treat coronavirus patients.

The Health Ministry said that some health workers have been asked to vacate their places of lodging.

Director General of Health Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that health workers are working very hard to treat the coronavirus patients.

He reminded the public that the health workers are taking a risk when dealing with coronavirus patients.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe urged the public to treat health workers like they treated the soldiers during the war.

He said the public must support local health workers at this time instead of stigmatising them for the work they do with coronavirus patients.?(Colombo Gazette)

Brother of church suicide bomber in custody

Woman convicted of keeping Sri Lankan national as her ?slave?

A federal jury convicted a New Jersey woman Thursday of forcing a Sri Lankan national to work for her for nine years without pay and even marry her so she could stay in the country, the Associated Press reported.
