Champika insists CCTV footage of accident not deleted

Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka today insisted that CCTV footage of a 2016 road accident, over which he has been accused, has not been deleted as claimed by come.

He told reporters today that the footage? was examined by the Moratuwa University and submitted to court.

A court order was issued yesterday preventing the overseas travel of Ranawaka over the accident in 2016.

The travel ban has also been imposed on his driver over the motor accident.

The Police are investigating the accident in which one youth was seriously injured.

It was reported earlier that CCTV footage of the accident was found to have been erased.

However, Ranawaka said that the footage had been examined by court earlier and his lawyers will submit all the relevant information to court again as a fresh investigation has been launched.

The former Minister also confronted a journalist at the media conference today accusing the journalist and the media organisation he represents of attempting to mislead the public on the incident.

He said that he will inform court through his lawyers that the media organisation was misrepresenting facts to the public. (Colombo Gazette)
