Switzerland keen to restore confidence with Sri Lanka after incident

Switzerland is keen to restore confidence with Sri Lanka after relations deteriorated following an alleged kidnapping of one of its local employees.

Following several demarches from the FDFA over the incident concerning an employee of the Swiss embassy in Colombo, State Secretary Pascale Baeriswyl had received the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Switzerland based in Berlin, Karunasena Hettiarachchi, in Bern.

Ms Baeriswyl confirmed at the meeting that Switzerland supports measures to investigate and settle this matter by due process of law. However, the employee concerned still cannot be questioned on health grounds.

At the end of November, a local employee at the Swiss embassy in Colombo was detained on the street and threatened by unidentified men to force her to disclose embassy-related information. The FDFA responded to this incident through a series of demarches. The embassy reported the incident to the Sri Lankan authorities, calling for a swift and thorough investigation to be conducted.

Ms Baeriswyl emphasised to the Sri Lankan ambassador that the FDFA would support all measures to investigate and resolve this matter by due process of law. She confirmed that the employee concerned still cannot be questioned on health grounds, stressing that the individual’s health must take priority. She also indicated that while Switzerland had no interest in delaying investigations by the Sri Lankan authorities, the FDFA takes its responsibilities to its staff very seriously.

In conveying this message, Ms Baeriswyl was responding to a statement issued by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 1 December 2019, which questioned the embassy’s presentation of the facts. She also asked Ambassador Hettiarachchi to explain the purported evidence against the events described by the embassy, which the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs had alluded to in its press release.

She affirmed to Ambassador Hettiarachchi that Switzerland remained ready to take the necessary steps to restore confidence between Switzerland and Sri Lanka.

  1. In any Democracy, the relevant laws of the people are equally applied to all citizens. When Buddhist monks either talk or influence harmfully in an island of two nations, cultures, traditions and homeland, such acts of hatred should be punished. Buddhist monks are limited by a mandate to teach the principles of Buddhism and practice them.. Anything other than that mandate is a punishable excess by law.
    When Buddhist monks exceed their mandate and do politics, I call it “Political Buddhist Monkering” (PBM). The history of PBM for the past 60 years was harmfully damaging SL .The main damages by PBM to SL are listed below;

    1. PBM demonstration to Tear off of a political agreement between the two national leaders SWRD and SJV in 1958 and subsequent murder of SWRD by a Buddhist monk.
    2. Anti-Tamil hatred, violence, murder and arson from 1958 to 2019
    3. Illegal constitution of 1972 by political monkering amongst Buddhist Sinhalese.
    4. Cause for the civil war in SL between the GSL and LTTE. and Tamil Genocide
    5. Brain washing Sinhalese kids with false history of the island, to fan Tamil hatred

During the recently held Presidential election, the Tamil parties of the North and East decided on a 13 demand solution to resolve Tamil political issue peacefully. They rightly and democratically sent their demands to SLPP, NDF and JVP. It was a 100% political matter. But the Mahanayake of Malwatte blurted out like a despotic ruler of democratic SL, as if the Police, judge and thr prison are under his authority. He is a Buddhist monk, yet he said “Sampanthan should be arrested and put in Prison. This was an act of PBM

This error of the chief monk should have been rebuked and corrected by the leaders government and the political parties. By their silence, all of them accepted as if it was correct behavior under law and democracy of SL Obviously, political leaders deliberately promote such wrong acts and thrive on dirty PBM.. A convicted and pardoned prisoner Monk Gnanasara Thera said to President Gotabaya Rajapakse (GR) that there should be no minority representation in parliament but GR accepted the dangerous PBM act instead of rebuking and warning that democratic misfit.

GR publicly thanked the Maha Sangha for Its support for his election victory Maha Sanga openly supporting SLPP is a violation of constitution and election law by PBM and SLPP. Here, PBM thinks it to be above the law. Maha Sanga, is now answerable to the citizens and the world at large, as to why it worked for SLPP and brought back white Van abduction, terrorism and alleged, rape of an employee of Swiss Embassy in Colombo. And also despotic rule back to SL.

Buddhist monks claim to study Buddhism in Pali, a dead and unspoken language that does not add words because it is dead. A dead language like Pali cannot translate the more advanced thoughts expressed in modern languages, as there is insufficient Pali vocabulary. So we have a situation in SL, where the practice of real Buddhism is practiced by less than 1% Buddhists only. The rest are dead in practice of Buddhism. But the GSL policy is to give Buddhism its “ proper place”. So, the Buddhist monks conveniently interpret it as giving prominence to Monks in robes and not Buddhist principles and practice. The monks, in their practice of Buddhism,do lawlessness; leading to uncivilized and despotic behavior

Barbarism recommences when uncivilized thoughts and deeds creep into mankind. In SL the uncivilised nature of Sinhalese has led to violence and war. SL citizens saw the satelite photos of more than 100,000 Tamil dead civilians in “no Fire Zone” created by the UN. This act proves that PBM is a curse to SL.

There is no internal calibre and ability within SL to eradicate PBM. Further the major political parties are in cohorts with PBM. It is therefore only the presence of UN Peacekeeping Force in SL that can help the citizens of SL to face and eradicate PBM and its evil.
