Election Commission Chairman seeks approval to step down

Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has sought approval to step down from his post.

Deshapriya has made the request to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the request has been conveyed to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

However, the Speaker, as the Chairman of the Constitutional Council, has proposed that Deshapriya continue in his post.

Jayasuriya noted the important role played by the National Elections Commission under the chairmanship of Deshapriya at the just concluded Presidential election.

He said that with another crucial election coming up it would be best if that election is also conducted with Deshapriya at the National Elections Commission.

  1. You have passed your ‘Use By, Best Before’ and well beyond the retirement age of 55. Why do need permission from anybody to retire or leave?. It’s a right of every citizen employed in Public or Private sector. Only the ‘SLAVES’ and the politicians would stick to their jobs for their own survival.
Are you finding ‘White Vans’ out in your area?. If there are, that’s what you get for not acting independently, now that you are hooked and do as you are told. You were part of the ‘Jarapassa coup’ as we gathered.
    ‘Ditta Damma Vedaneeya’.
