Mahesh insists cannot blame IGP or Hemasiri

National People’s Movement Presidential candidate Mahesh Senanayake asserted that it was wrong to blame Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara or former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando for allowing the Easter attacks to occur.

The former Army Commander said that on many occasions he had submitted intelligence on extremist groups to the responsible authorities but action had not been taken thereafter.

He said that responsible figures-including those in the Ministry of Defense had been provided with intelligence reports yet there was no person to provide leadership and take appropriate action.

Senanayke made these remarks while addressing the media after a religious even in Chilaw.

Both Senanayake and Jayasundara had been arrested after being accused of criminal negligence over the attacks.
