The Api Sri Lanka movement led by former President Chandrika Kumaratunga and several other political parties and civil society groups signed an agreement today to form the Democratic National Front (DNF) alliance and back New Democratic Front Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa at the upcoming Presidential election.
The agreement was signed at the Taj Samudra hotel in Colombo today.
Ruwan Ranatunga signed the agreement on behalf of the Api Sri Lanka movement with the DNF. United National Front member and Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratna signed the agreement on behalf of the DNF.
A total of 32 political parties and 31 civil society organisations and groups signed the agreement with the DNF.
United National Party leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa and Kumaratunga attended the event.
Senaratna, speaking at the event, said that the agreement with the Api Sri Lanka movement was reached after intense talks.
He said that discussions continued until late last night before an agreement was reached.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the parties who have joined the new alliance support democracy and the protection of human rights.
