AG accuses Police of inaction, orders IB extracts

Attorney General (AG) Dappula De Livera has accused the Police of inaction in the case involving former Parliamentarian J. Sri Ranga.

The Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said that the AG has sent a letter to the Acting Inspector General of Police instructing the Police to record statements from J. Sri Ranga and former DIG Amarasiri Senarathna over the case.

He has also instructed the Police to submit complete IB extracts within three months.

The Attorney General dad last month instructed the Police to arrest Sri Ranga and five others over a fatal accident in 2011 in which a policemen was killed.

The Police Special Investigations Unit had been instructed to records statements from the suspects over the incident.

The incident in Settikulam on the afternoon of 30 March 2011 left Ranga’s bodyguard – a Police sergeant, dead.

At the time, police records said the sergeant had driven the vehicle, but it was later revealed that Ranga had been behind the wheel. (Colombo Gazette)
