JVP raises strong objections to retirement benefits for President

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today strongly objected to the retirement benefits approved for President Maithripala Sirisena.

JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath said that these benefits are being offered at a time when the local economy is in bad shape.

Speaking to reporters today Herath said that cabinet had approved the benefits which is a huge waste of public funds.

Among the benefits approved is for him to continue to use his current official residence in Colombo and to be provided security by the Special Task Force (STF).

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera presented the cabinet proposal earlier this month which was approved by the cabinet.
