Cabinet approves retirement benefits for President

Cabinet has approved a proposal to grant retirement benefits for President Maithripala Sirisena after he steps down as President following the election next month.

Among the benefits approved is for him to continue to use his current official residence in Colombo and to be provided security by the Special Task Force (STF).

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera presented the cabinet proposal which was approved by the cabinet.

Police fail to prevent SLPP mob attack on GotaGoGama

By Easwaran Rutnam The Police watched as Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) supporters moved into “GotaGoGama” in Galle Face and launched an attack. Several people sustained injuries as the SLPP supporters, armed with poles and other objects, attacked GotaGoGama in Galle Face. Demonstration opposite Ranil’s private residence

By Easwaran Rutnam A demonstration was staged opposite the residence of United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today. The protesters accused the former Prime Minister of having secret deals with the Government. They demanded that Wickremesinghe step down as UNP Leader and appoint a new Leader. The protesters also sought a meeting with Wickremesinghe but the former Prime Minister turned it down. He offered to meet them at Sirikotha on Monday instead of his private residence.
