At Anuradhapura rally Gotabaya promises to free jailed troops

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa today promised to free soldiers jailed by the current Government.

He said that if he becomes President he will free the soldiers jailed on “false allegations” after assuming office.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa was speaking at the first major rally of the SLPP held in Anuradhapura today.

Rajapaksa claimed that military intelligence officers had been arrested and jailed on false charges.

The former Defence Secretary also said that Government propaganda has been focused on promoting him as a military man.

He noted that as a “military man” he was able to ensure the defeat of the LTTE in 2009.

Rajapaksa said that if not for the “military man” the war would not have been won.

He said that the former Government ensured the end of the war yet the current Government failed to ensure the country remained safe.

The National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Duminda Dissanayake was among those who took the stage at the SLPP rally. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. This (Gota) is the man Sri Lanka needs. A man who will not give a damn about Western opinion.

If anyone believes in unconditional Western altruism towards Sri Lanka, they need look no further than Kurdistan.

However, Gota needs to remember that Sri Lanka is not populated by Sinhalese Buddhists only, and refrain from divisive policies that light the fuse of the next civil war.
