Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says after the Presidential elections the focus will shift on securing a majority at the Parliamentary elections.
Speaking to a group of civil society, Wickremesinghe said that the United National Front has decided to nominate United National Party Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa as the Presidential candidate.
He said that the party needs to ensure it wins the Presidential election.
After that, he says the focus will be on the Parliamentary elections and securing a majority in Parliament to bring about a new Constitution.
“With a majority we will do what we could not do as a minority in Parliament,” he said
He said that the country cannot return to the ‘white van’ era and steps must be taken to ensure the freedom enjoyed in the country is protected. (Colombo Gazette)
