Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa today assured that he will protect the troops who fought the war.
He claimed that there are attempts to take the troops before an international court and accuse them of committing human rights abuses.
However, he said that under an SLPP Government he will not allow that to happen.
He also said that he will not allow anyone to divide the country.
Rajapaksa was speaking to families of soldiers at an event today.
Speaking further, he noted that some western countries had raised objections to the appointment of the new Army Commander.
He said that Sri Lanka is a sovereign nation and no foreign country can interfere.
The former Defence Secretary also raised concerns on action being taken against military intelligence officers over various allegations. (Colombo Gazette)
