Northern Province Governor Suren Raghavan has ordered the authorities to ensure schools in the North remain open tomorrow.
Schools had been asked to be closed by some politicians in support of a major rally in Jaffna tomorrow being organised by the Tamil People’s Council led by former Northern Province Chief Minister C.V Wigneswaran.
The rally is being staged to demand the authorities to address issues and concerns of the Tamils.
“The Governor’s attention has been drawn to media reports that there will be no schools in the Northern Province on Monday (16). The Northern Provincial Education Ministry has announced that the above information is not true and that all schools in the Northern Province will function as usual on Monday,” the Northern Province Governor’s office said.
