The United National Party (UNP) has decided to have more talks on the Presidential candidate of the United National Front (UNF).
United National Party (UNP) leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa held do or die talks today in an attempt to reach a consensus on the Presidential candidate of the United National Front at the Presidential elections.
Speaking to reporters following the meeting Premadasa said that more discussions will be held among party members to reach a final decision.
He said that the talks held today at Temple Trees was positive and they expect to reach a final decision on the Presidential candidate soon.
Asked if there was a date by when a decision will be reached Premadasa said that there was no such date but they expect to reach a decision soon.
While the UNF has not yet decided on its Presidential candidate Premadasa has begun a campaign to muster support for him to be named as the candidate.
Premadasa has said he will contest the Presidential elections at any cost and hoped to do so with the support of the UNP leader.
However some senior members in the UNP do not support Premadasa being picked as the candidate.
