Sri Lanka criticised on transitional justice in report to UNHRC

Sri Lanka has come under criticism on transitional justice, in a report submitted to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The former Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence?Pablo de Greiff has noted in his report that nothing has hindered the transitional justice programme in Sri Lanka more than lack of commitment on the part of the Government. The report has been submitted to the UNHRC for its September session which begins on Monday.

Heavy rain creates havoc in several areas

Heavy rain disrupted activities in several parts of Colombo and adjoining areas today. A number of roads in Colombo and the suburbs were inundated due to heavy overnight rain. Speaker accused of violating Constitution by allowing Jayasekara to take oaths

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has been accused of violating the Constitution by allowing a convicted murderer to take oaths as a Parliamentarian this week.
