Kanjipani Imran appeals against harsh sentence

Mohommad Najim Mohammad Imran alias Kanjipani Imran has filed an appeal against what he termed as a harsh sentence on him by the Colombo High Court.

The Colombo High Court had last month sentenced notorious drug dealer Kanjipani Imran to six years in jail.

He was sentenced to jail over the possession and trafficking of 5.3Kgs of cannabis.

However, today his lawyers filed an appeal seeking a lesser sentence.

In March,?Mohommad Najim Mohammad Imran alias Kanjipani Imran was deported from Dubai and detained by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

Imran had been arrested together with underworld leader Makandure Madush at a hotel in Dubai before he was deported.

He was later detained and further questioned under the controversial Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).?(Colombo Gazette)
