Police Commission makes u-turn, cancels transfer of Kurunegala DIG

The National Police Commission mad a u-turn and cancelled the transfer of controversial Kurunegala Deputy Inspector of Police (DIG) Kithsiri Jayalath.

The National Police Commission had earlier approved the transfer of Jayalath to Trincomalee.

However a few hours later the National Police Commission cancelled the transfer.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had launched an investigation on the DIG over matters related to the ongoing investigation against Dr. Mohamad Shafi who was arrested by the Kurunegala Police over allegations of acquiring assets in a suspicious manner.

Chancellor of Ruhuna University passed away

Chancellor of the Ruhuna University, Aggamaha Panditha Pahopadya Most Ven. Pallaththara Sri Sumanajothi Thero passed away today. He was 95 years old at the time of his death. The final rites will take place at the Samanala Grounds in Galle on the 12th of June.
