SLPP to challenge President if he seeks term extension

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) says it will challenge President Maithripala Sirisena if he seeks an extension of his term through court.

There have been reports the President is to seek the opinion of the Supreme Court on the possibility of his term being extended by a few months.

SLPP Chairman, Professor G.L Peiris said that if the President attempts to delay the Presidential election by going to court the SLPP will challenge it in court.

He said that the SLPP will push to ensure the Presidential elections are held as scheduled. (Colombo Gazette)
