Power cuts as CPC stops fuel to CEB thermal power plants

Power cuts are being experienced in some parts of the country after the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) suspended fuel to thermal power plants of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

The CEB said that power outages will be experienced for an hour in some parts of the country as a result of the issue.

Both the CEB and the CPC are Government owned yet both sides have had issues in the recent past and have failed to completely resolve them.

Major operation underway after oil tanker catches fire off Sri Lanka

A major operation is underway after an oil tanker caught fire off Sri Lanka today. The fire had started in the engine room of the ‘New Diamond’ ship, which was carrying crude oil from Kuwait to India. Fire on oil tanker completely extinguished

The fire on the oil tanker ‘MT New Diamond’ has been completely extinguished, the Sri Lanka Navy and the Indian Coast Guard said. The Indian Coast Guard said that there was no flame or smoke visible on the MT New Diamond.
