PM perturbed after Hans Wijesuriya sends letter on US deal

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he was perturbed by a letter sent to him by the Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), Dr. Hans Wijesuriya.

The letter had raised concerns over the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement with Sri Lanka.

In response to the letter, the Secretary to the Prime Minister said that Wickremesinghe was perturbed over the ignorance of the CCC on the contents of the US agreement.

He said that the CCC had been briefed on several occasions over the negotiations being held on the MCC deal.

The Prime Minister also raised concerns over the politicisation of the CCC after Dr. Hans Wijesuriya assumed the role of Chairman recently.

Last week, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce issued a public statement expressing concerns with regard to the increasing levels of speculation among its Membership and society at large on the consequences surrounding the proposed Status of Forces Agreement and the Millennium Challenge Corporation agreement.

The Ceylon Chamber requested the Government of Sri Lanka to provide an enhanced level of transparency with respect to these agreements and their potential consequences and also to clarify the exact position with regards to the current status of the negotiations and/or execution of these agreements. 1. Ranil also a big believer in democracy, human rights and free speech. Seems like he is learning quickly to pretend as a big believer in democracy, human rights and free speech as his foreign masters. Some of the parliamentary staff are getting paid by foreign power. Are you expecting the foreign puppets to be faithful to Sri Lanka while they are getting paid by the foreign power? You are utter fools, disgraceful for leadership roles and 21st century humanity. The animals in the Sri Lanka jungles can protect the jungle and other animals better than Sri Lankan leaders’ ability to protect their own people and foreigners.

  2. The Chairman of CCC has done the right thing. The foreign powers brought Ranil to power. Therefore, Ranil is always faithful to the foreign powers.

Ranil has blocked me from his Facebook in 2017. This was the action of the leader who came to power in the name of ‘good governance’. My brother who passed only grade 8 sprayed pepper spray into my eyes and stole my Australian passport, Sri Lankan national identity card and smartphone in Jaffna in 2017. Last year he has broken into my parents house and stole my laptop in Jaffna. I reported to the Sri Lankan police nothing has happened, not even media coverage on my case. I knew a disaster is waiting to happen. Worse of all, the government systematically disabled the intelligence network to please the foreign powers so they can impose the foreign interests. We have utter fools as leaders and foreign ministry staff.

    • You are obviously a confused fellow from a dysfunctional family, which is not Ranil’s fault. How is Ranil responsible for your brother dropping out of school, stealing your passport or breaking into your parents’ house?
