TNA says Tamils more united now than before

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) says the Tamils in Sri Lanka are more united now than they were during the war. TNA Parliamentarian M.A Sumanthiran says the Tamils feel the international community had deceived them. Sumanthiran noted the TNA played a crucial role to ensure the Maginda Rajapaksa Government was defeated. He also said that if the political coup last October was not defeated then Mahinda Rajapaksa would have come to power.

Elderly skeletal elephant spared from Kandy parade

A skeletal 70-year-old elephant has been withdrawn from a high-profile annual Buddhist pageant in Sri Lanka following a social media firestorm against parading the feeble animal. Slave Island salon manager killed, five arrested and remanded

The manager of a salon in Slave Island was clubbed to death and five suspects have been arrested and remanded over the incident. The Police said that the manager of the salon was murdered after five young men had made remarks at a woman he was with. The manager had got into an argument with the young men for passing remarks at the woman after which the men had clubbed him to death. The youth, aged between 17-24, had fled the scene but were arrested by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) personnel.
