Former Western Province Governor Azath Salley told the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) today that the authorities had been warned several times about the National Thowfeek Jamaath (NTJ).
The suicide bombers involved in the Easter Sunday attacks were members of the NTJ.
Salley said that when he was Governor he had warned the President on a number of occasions while the Muslim community has also warned the authorities prior to that.
He said that a meeting had also been held with former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando.
Salley said that Fernando, who was then Defence Secretary, had convened a meeting with several other officials and briefed them on the concerns we had raised on the NTJ.
However, he says no action was taken on the group before the Easter Sunday attacks. (Colombo Gazette)
