Former Foreign Secretary denies being recruited by US

Former Foreign Secretary Prasad Kariyawasam has denied claims he is an employee of the US Federal Government.

Kariyawasam said his contractual employment with the Parliament of Sri Lanka and the Speaker as his Adviser on International Affairs has been misrepresented by some media.

“I am not an employee of the US Federal Government as claimed in the Report, and never have been,” he said in response to a media report.

Kariyawasam was a former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the the US, the UN in Geneva the Vatican, the UN in New York and High Commissioner to India.

A media report had claimed that Kariyawasam was employed by the US federal government backed Agency for International Development (USAID), a federal entity.

The media report said the agency?s Colombo office has placed him as an Advisor to the Parliament of Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
