Health Ministry launches separate probe on Kurunegala doctor

The Health Ministry has appointed a special investigation body to look into the allegations against Dr Siyabdeen Mohamed Safi of the Kurunegala Hospital who is accused of performing sterilization on women illegally,

Health Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne said that the investigation body, comprising three members of the Ceylon College of Gynecologists and one member from the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) would probe the allegations.

?This committee will ascertain whether the doctor concerned had committed an offence,? the Minister said.

Siyabdeen Mohamed Safi was arrested and is currently being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department.

Malaysia relaxes ban on travellers from Sri Lanka

Malaysia has relaxed a ban on travellers from Sri Lanka and four other countries. Accordingly, those with permanent resident status, long-stay passes, businessmen and investors can enter Malaysia from these five countries. The strict conditions were imposed since April 26 to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Malaysia’s Immigration Director-General Khairul Dzaimee Daud said that restrictions have been relaxed for selected travellers from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Tamil National People?s Front MP arrested in Jaffna

Tamil National People?s Front (TNFP) Parliamentarian Selvarasa Gajendran was arrested in Jaffna today while attempting to commemorate former LTTE political wing leader Thileepan.
