Sharia University will not be approved

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesighe today asserted that the proposed Sharia University will not be approved in Batticaloa.

He also said that measures will be taken to bring all Madrasa schools under the purview of the Ministry of Education.

The Prime Minister expressed these view after meeting members of a Subcommittee appointed to look into the Sharia University controversy.

Wickremesighe said the Government cannot approve Sharia Universities in Sri Lanka.

He said the Government can only approve degree awarding institutions. (Colombo Gazette)
