National Thawheed Jammath and JMI banned in Sri Lanka

The National Thawheed Jammath (NTJ) and Jamathei Millathu Ibraheem (JMI) have been banned in Sri Lanka.

President Maithripala Sirisena, in terms of the powers vested in him as the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka under Emergency Regulations No. 01 of 2019, has taken steps to ban the National Thawheed Jammath (NTJ) and Jamathei Millathu Ibraheem (JMI) in Sri Lanka.

As such, all activities of those organizations as well as their property will be seized by the Government.

Steps are been taken to ban other extremist organizations operating in Sri Lanka as well, under Emergency Regulations, the President’s office said.

Both the NTJ and JMI were linked to the deadly suicide attacks in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday.

Prime Minister’s son offers reward for missing cat

Information DG to be informed if journalists are arrested

The Director-General of the Government Information Department will be informed when accredited media personnel are arrested in connection with any incident in future, Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said. He said that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) had given an assurance in this regard. Rishad Bathiudeen further remanded over death of teen

Former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen has been further remanded over the death of a 16-year-old domestic worker. Bathiudeen, his wife and father-in-law had been arrested and remanded until 17th September over the death of the girl. However, Bathiudeen’s wife and his father-in-law were granted bail on 17th September while the former Minister was further remanded till today.
