Cabinet approves proposal to purchase more power, committee appointed

Cabinet has approved a proposal to purchase more power while a committee has also been appointed to submit recommendations to address the power crisis.

The cabinet approved a proposal presented by Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development Ravi Karunanayake to award the contract of supplying 24 MW of power to the Pallekele Substation and 10 MW to Gall Sub Station at Rs.30.20 per 1 KW to Aggreko International Project Ltd.

A proposal to award the contract of supplying 10 MW to the Mahiyanganaya Grid Sub Station at Rs.30.58 per 1 KW and 8 MW to the Polonnaruwa Sub Station at Rs. 30.63 per 1 KW to Altaaqa Alterrative Solution Global FZE of United Arabic Emirates.

Cabinet also approved the proposal to award the contract of supplying 24 MW to the Hambantota Grid Sub Station at Rs.28.43 per 1 KW and 24 MW to the Horana Grid Sub Station at Rs. 28.70 per 1 KW to V Power Holdings Ltd of Hongkong.

Meanwhile, cabinet also approved a proposal to appoint a committee headed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to submit recommendations to address the power crisis.

The committee will include the Ministers of Finance, Power, Energy and Business Development, Highways and Road Development and Petroleum Resources Development, Ports, Shipping and Southern Development. (Colombo Gazette)
