The first Presidential media awards held today was marred by controversy, particularly with some of the organising aspects of the awards ceremony.
Concerns had also been raised about some of the winners picked in the newspaper categories.
It is also learnt that several journalists had not even applied for the awards as there were concerns over the selection process.
Meanwhile, some newspaper Editors invited for the awards ceremony walked out after not being allocated appropriate seating.
President Maithripala Sirisena had expressed regret over the incident and requested the Minister of Mass Media to look into the issue.
Media Minister Ruwan Wijewardene also expressed regret over the incident and assured an investigation. (Colombo Gazette)
