Northern power company ordered to compensate residents

The Northern power company has been ordered to compensate residents affected by the Chunnakam Power station.

The Supreme Court today ordered the Northern power company to pay Rs. 20 million as compensation to the affected families.

The case was filed by the Centre for Environmental and Nature Studies (CENS).

The Chunnakam Power station had contaminated ground water in the area seriously affecting area residents. (Colombo Gazette)
