Maithripala, Mahinda talks on budget vote ends in stalemate

Talks held today between President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the stand the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) must take during the final vote on the 2019 budget, ended in a stalemate.

The final vote on the 2019 budget will take place tomorrow.

The UPFA and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is to meet tomorrow to reach a final decision ahead of the vote.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) led by Rajapaksa has warned that talks between the SLPP and the SLFP to form an alliance will be at risk if the SLFP votes in support of the budget. (Colombo Gazette)
