IGP appoints committee to probe deported suspects

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara has appointed a seven-member committee headed by Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Senior Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ravi Seneviratne to conduct further investigations on the suspects deported from Dubai.

Others in the committee are CID Director SSP Shani Abeysekera, PNB Director SSP T.C.A. Dhanapala, CCD Director C.S.A.K.D.U. Hemantha, DIG Ajith Rohana, Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara and SP Nishantha de Zoysa.

Several people, including leading underworld leaders and drug dealers were arrested at a hotel in Dubai last month.

Among those arrested was Makandure Madush and Kanjipani Imran as well as singer Amal Perera and his son Nadeemal Perera.

Kanjipani Imran and Nadeemal Perera were among those deported back to Sri Lanka.

Nadeemal Perera was released by Kanjipani Imran and a few others who were deported were arrested. (Colombo Gazette)
