The United States has noted that timely action in Sri Lanka on the human rights issue will be good for the future of the country.
The US State Department said that the US welcomes Sri Lanka’s renewed commitment to reconciliation, justice and accountability.
“We welcome Sri Lanka’s renewed commitment to reconciliation, justice, and accountability. Timely action to address these issues will secure a peaceful and prosperous future for all Sri Lankans,” the State Department said.
The US was reacting to the Resolution on Sri Lanka which was passed at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The Resolution, which was co-sponsored by Sri Lanka, renews Sri Lanka’s commitment to fully implement the previous two Resolutions on Sri Lanka.
The US is no more part of the UNHRC as it withdrew accusing the Council of being biased. (Colombo Gazette)
