Fourteen Chinese arrested in Galle jailed for a year

Fourteen Chinese nationals arrested in Galle recently for violating local visa laws have been ordered to be jailed for a year.

The 14 Chinese nationals were produced in court today and the Galle Chief Magistrate ordered that they be jailed for a year.

They were also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 each.

The Chinese nationals had been employed at a construction site in Galle without valid work visas.

They were arrested last month after being found to have been employed while in the country on tourist visas.

The Chinese nationals were produced in court and remanded till today.

The Magistrate warned that if they fail to pay the fine the jail term will be extended by a month. (Colombo Gazette)

Rapid rise in Covid patients at NHSL
